One for One

I have recently become the happy owner of TOMS. They are by far the most comfortable shoes I've owned (sorry Rainbows, you're still second! =). Besides, they are really cute and on top of that they are for a good cause! What more could you ask for? Every time you buy a pair of TOMS the company donates a pair to a child in need in a poverty stricken country. Their motto is appropriately, "One for One". Thanks to my tax refund, and my mom's awesome habit of rounding up the money she transfers to me, I didn't even have to pay for this pair so I plan on getting another one soon... that's how amazing they are! =) My only advice is to keep in mind that you are buying two pairs of shoes when looking at the prices and try to find a place where you can try them on in person before ordering them online. Coalition in downtown SLO has them. Well that's my newest venture and I recommend that everyone try them out! =)
Check it out here!:

Reason's for this newest ramble:
1. Caitlin said I never post anything (which is not true =).
2. I like to talk about stuff.
3. God is great!!!

Yesterday Laura and I continued our excercise regime (it is oh so strenuous) by swimming in the Poly Canyon pool. Can I just say that being able to swim outside in February is wonderful? Anyway, I was floating on my back in the pool while Laura swam her last few laps (Disclaimer: I already had gone to the gym and ran before this =) and I realized something. My view of the world is extremely limited. The sky was really clear, depite the fact that it was raining cats and dogs (unfortunatly not men) that morning, and I could see for miles up into the sky. Or so I thought. When I really thought about it, I wasn't seeing much at all. Our world is so much bigger then the one expanse of sky that I could see from where I was. I couldn't even see that far up to begin with, I only felt like I was looking outward forever. In context of our atmosphere, our solar sytem, and the universe I could see very little of God's creation. He is such a grand God and such an awesome King. What he has created and everything he rules over is beyond our wildest imagination. We are such a small part of his plan and his glory yet he loves us as his children. For being so small he places more importance on us then all the rest of his creation.

We talked about this idea of smallness last night at Bible Study. One of our leaders, Maureen, gave us a visual her dad uses. Basically we are all in a grand parade and God is in a blimp. He can see the beginning and end of the parade from his aerial view while we can only see the small part of the parade we are walking in. God knows everything about our lives and futures, where we can only begin to guess the wonderful plans he has for us. Once again our veiw is limited.

This is not a negative thing if we have the right perspective though. God is powerful and mighty and we need his grace like we need water and we should feel small if we are comparing ourselves to God's greatness. Not insignificant by any means, but small. He is our King, our Savior, our life, our Redeemer, our Creator, our God. We are his children, his creation, his love, his light, and his image. He loves us more then we can imagine and this is something to rejoice in! I love being small! =)

Trust in the Lord

Bishop's Peak... taken from Poly Canyon... it's a little far away but still beautiful. =)
I love blossoms! God creates everything anew every year. It's such a good reminder that every day is a new day to spend with Him. =)

It is days like these that I wonder why I don’t listen to God ALL of the time. The peace that comes from God and God alone is so much greater then any of my self-guided attempts, struggles really, to map out my life. No matter what it is that I am dealing with, whenever I try to control things myself all I end up with is frustration and stress. But when I trust the Lord to guide me and protect my heart he fixes my life with grace and beauty. In hindsight I always realize this but yet every time it comes down to choosing my own path or what God wants for me I argue and complain to him about not getting my way. Yes, I do act like a spoiled kid sometimes but God always sticks with me and gently reminds me that my crazy ideas are not going to work out for my benefit in the end. His will is mighty and marvelous and has lead me to amazing places of worshipping at his feet.

I recently discovered and acquired a new song by Phil Wickham, many thanks to Mike and Jon. This song puts God where he is supposed to be, at the center of our lives. I want to be in a place that I can say that I would lay down my life just to be in God’s presence. Unfortunately this is not always true but he really is the love I need and the grace that covers my sin (and stubbornness =).

Always Forever
Phil Wickham

You are the hand that catches my fall
You are the friend that answers my call
You are my day, You are my night
You are my love and all of my life

You are the love I need
You are the air I breathe
You are my love my life always forever
I would lay down my life Just to be by Your side
You are my love my life always forever
You are the grace that covers my sin
You’re everything the beginning and end
You have my soul, my heart and my mind
You have my love and all of my life
Oh and did I mention the Lord is beautiful? One look at the beauty he creates around us everyday (in the people you see, the greenness of Spring, and the blessings in your life) and I am in awe of his love for us. The Lord is good!!!

My Girls

Let's just say, I am blessed! Since the very beginning of freshman year I have been blessed by Caitlin and Bailey, when they asked Ashlee and I to dinner the first night we were without our families. They reached out to me that first night when we were all nervous to get out there and make friends, and this is just a small testament to how awesome they both are. =) Since then Amy and Laura have been added to our dynamic group and the rest is history. We are all so incredibly different yet so compatible. What one of us lacks the others have in abundance and what we sometimes have too much of the other's keep in check and we balance that out in each other as well. There is only one thing to think when I consider how much I love my girls... Thank you Jesus! Through thick and thin (to be cliche' =) we have been there for each other. And now I just want to pause and steal some lyrics from one of our favorite shows, Friends. This song is so true of us. =)

"So no one told you life was going to be this way.
Your job's a joke, you're broke, you're love life's DOA.
It's like you're always stuck in second gear.
Well, it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year. But,
I'll be there for you,
when the rain starts to pour.
I'll be there for you,
like I've been there before.
I'll be there for you,
cause you're there for me too."
Thank ladies!!! =D

Myspace anyone?

I was looking through pictures and I had to share this one. Remember the age of myspace shots? This is definitely one of those incredibly dorky and self-centered pictures, and of course I am posting it, therfore making it even more self-centered, but it was just funny so I thought I'd share it. One, I can't beleive I took this in the first place. Two, its only about four years old. And three, note the ghetto camera. =)

25 Factoids

So my friends have been doing a facebook thing where you write out 25 random facts about yourself (which is surprisingly hard to do). I thought I would give it a go and post it on my blog as well. =)

1. I sew but I really don't like using patterns... I like to free hand things.
2. I love antiques and vintage decorations. I recently fell in love with mercury glass.
3. I own a ton of clothes but I only wear half of them. I always find something wrong with the other half and they just sit in my closet. (I have a ton of necklaces too)
4. I like to grow plants but don't like the continual upkeep. I mainly just like to see them sprouting from the seeds and know that I played a hand in it.
5. I recently discovered how wonderful children are. =)
6. An ideal (therefore comfortable) outfit consists of my rainbows, jeans, a sweatshirt and a scarf. I love cold, rainy weather. =)
7. I ride a motorcycle and my favorite part of that is the fact that I am in control of what I am doing. In a car you are not as free to zip around and experience your surroundings.
8. I love singing and playing my guitar (I don't play enough). I also just started learning piano and I love messing around with chords.
9. I love playing hostess and I really love feeding people. I am however very dominant in the kitchen. I like to be the only cook in my kitchen and I like doing all of the work myself (I also picked up my mom’s amazing habit of cleaning as I go; it’s a pet peeve now if you don’t).
10. I have a lot of pet peeves and I am really trying to work on that.
11. Missions are an amazing thing. God works so much through and in eager servant hearts and I love seeing Him impact people through that.
12. I love when people notice my details and I love finding other people's quirks (mostly I like being able to really read people).
13. I like orange and blue (together as well as separate).
14. I try to brag about my family to anyone who will listen.
15. I love my curly hair!
16. I collect teacups and have over 20 at this point (two are from Russia and I have a wooden tea set from Haiti). I love china and dishes in general though.
17. I have parents fooled. It is my friends that know I am not always bubbly. =)
18. I am addicted to line dancing and want to have it at my wedding.
19. The best way to spend time at the beach is go in the afternoon (surf, swim, boogie board) and stay in the evening for worship. Jeans at the beach is the best plus you get to experience friends in a more intimate way around the bonfire. Mostly you get to experience God in such a cool way with the stars, the sound of the waves, music for his glory, and because you are more relaxed and simple at the beach.
20. I love the lake... sailing with mi padre (ocean works too), wakeboarding!, knee boarding, and tubing of course. =)
21. I love father-daughter bonding, which could mean anything with my dad but tends to mean home depot trips, backpacking, long motorcycle rides, sailing, exploring, shooting, ect.
22. Modesty is the best policy. I try to be really aware of this but I’m not perfect by any means.
23. Procrastinating and BS-ing are my official minors.
24. I love being curled up and I am most comfortable when I have a pillow on my lap or my knees are tucked up under my chin.
25. I love guy movies/TV shows and am not a fan of chick flicks. My favorite shows are something like this: Smallville, Lost, Dirty Jobs, Deadliest Catch, Survivorman, Man vs. Wild, How its Made etc... Some of my favorite movies are: Braveheart, Gladiator, The Prestige, 300, 3:10 to Yuma, Return to Snowy River, Star Wars, Saving Private Ryan and any epic battle movie.
