Independence Day

I love the 4th of July! =)

The holiday starts a few days early for our family. My dad and I eagerly await the local casino's firework show days before the 4th. Because the money is always pouring into that place they spend millions on fireworks (millions our city does not have) and have a much better show then the one on the actual 4th of July. Last year we drove super early to the park near the casino to get front row seats and it was amazing! Fireworks bursting over your head instead of off in the distance? Yes please!

On the holiday itself my whole home church comes over to our house for a party. Red, white and blue everywhere! We have a mexican buffet, potluck salads, drumsticks, a candy bar (think drink bar), and Dr. Pepper. There are games for the kids, worship, prayer, entertainment (one year Joey broke cement blocks and wood with his face), and a whole lot of catching up with everyone's lives. After we have stuffed ourselves we load up on blankets and jackets, pile in trucks, and banzai up the hills to get a good view of the fireworks. We have sparklers, poppers, and fireworks my dad gets from somewhere (he always has them lying around). The truck radios blast the patriotic songs that the firework show is timed to and we over exaggerate our ooos and ahhhs as smiley faces, dripping trees, and maggots light up the sky.

I missed the 4th last year with my family and it was horrible. This year I am making up for it by going home for five days and I decided yesterday that I am wearing my cowboy boots with my red and blue. Stoked! =)
